Time for a Change

Illinois is broken and the policies in Springfield are not working.  Taxes are going up but Illinois finances are in shambles and Illinois bond rating is junk status.  More and more Illinoisans are leaving the state of Illinois and moving to other neighboring states.  How could this be?

According to Illinois Policy Institute, the effective state and local tax rate on an Illinois household earning the median U.S. income is 14.89 percent, the highest in United States. To make matters worse, Illinois has a pension liability of $250 billion but the annual budget is only $38.5 billion. How do we fix this problem? In May 2018, the three economists at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago suggested that Illinois should consider levying additional one percent (1%) surcharge on everyone’s property value for next 30 years on top of current property tax to fix the pension liability. To put this into perspective, a home worth about $400,000 in Buffalo Grove currently pays a property tax of about $12,000 or 3% of property value. An additional 1% surcharge equates to $4,000 and the total property tax will be $16,000 for next 30 years. The home value will decrease and cut into the homeowner’s equity in the property. The rent will also rise to reflect the rise in property tax as the property owners will pass on the increase in property tax to tenants. It will be bad news for everyone in Illinois if we do not stop this madness.

We have a problem in Illinois.  There are too many corrupt career politicians who have forgotten why they were elected and who they serve.  Rather than taking care of the people, they are taking care of themselves and their friends.  As a next state senator for the 30th district, I promise I will utilize my expertise in law and finance to bring sensible and reasonable legislation in Springfield to fix Illinois’ broken financial policies.  I will look at all options and possibilities before making sounds decisions.  Please join me and we can bring Illinois back!
